Callum Roxburgh Swing Orchestra
With a big beefy sound of saxophones, trumpets and trombones plus a lively rhythm section and a copious collection of tunes. Be prepared for a sonorous tour of the big band sound; hearing classic swing band adaptations of Glenn Miller, Charlie Barnet, Count Basie and modern big band Hollywood and Disney film favourites.
Along the way you will hear Sinatra classics as well as recognisable rock songs from the 80s and 90s which have been given the jazz treatment à la Paul Anka’s Rock Swings album. The orchestra also boasts adaptations of John Coltrane compositions as well as the leader’s own interpretations of American song book standards.
Founded in 2011 with a line-up of like-minded jazz players then studying at Birmingham Conservatoire The orchestra is led by band leader and saxophonist, Callum Roxburgh, who has cut his teeth in Jazz playing in the Big Band tradition from a young age, performing live with Paul Rigby’s Northern Jazz Orchestra based in Blackburn and in recent years further performing across the UK with Chris Dean’s Syd Lawrence Orchestra.
